I got a Kinect for my birthday, even though we do not have an Xbox. I wanted to try programming for it on the computer with the new Kinect SDK. Naturally, I made another version of Dodge.
The interesting change is the input. Instead of moving a square with the mouse, the game takes movement from the Kinect. It turns a very small avoid-the-obstacles game into an excuse to stand up and move around in front of the screen.
It is nothing too fancy, but it is a fun way to try the sensor without starting with an enormous project. Reusing the basic game also makes it easier to concentrate on the new part: getting real movement into the program. I put together a video of it in action.
